Three persons, including a police inspector, were killed yesterday as rains from Tropical Storm Gustav battered sections of the island.
Inspector Audley Smith from the Oracabessa Police Station, St Mary, was shot dead shortly after 8 p.m. by gunmen at a bar in Race Course, St Mary. Up to press time yesterday, it could not be confirmed if the officer's firearm was taken.

George Martin, 50, of Porus, Manchester, was killed when he fell from a tree he was climbing.
Meanwhile, 24-hour curfews were imposed in commercial and residential districts in the parishes of St Mary, Manchester and St James yesterday.
The Constable Communication Network said the curfew orders were granted due to the passage of the tropical storm and should be lifted today. There were also reports of looting in Portland.

And an unidentified male, believed to be about 35, was found in a house at 14 Ruthven Road, Kingston 5 yesterday. The body is of dark complexion and about 170 centimetres tall and clad in a red shirt, short khaki pants and black slippers. Police say about 6:10 a.m., residents saw the body lying face down on the veranda and alerted the police. On arrival of the lawmen closer inspection of the body revealed that the head was bashed in. The scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue for post mortem.
