A 62-year-old St Catherine man who is facing several charges of fraudulent conversion, was remanded when he appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court earlier this week.
Donovan Williams, otherwise called Henry Pottinger and Delroy Grandison, is charged with three counts of uttering forged documents, possession of and issuing forged documents, after he was accused of fleecing several businesses in St Elizabeth of thousands of dollars worth of goods by issuing forged cheques.
The facts of the case are that on May 21, about 8 p.m. the accused went to a supermarket in the Santa Cruz area and took up a basket of grocery. He then went to the cashier and attempted to pay for the items with a Cable and Wireless cheque written in the name Donovan Williams.
No return
The accused man also presented a Cable and Wireless ID to the cashier. He was asked to provide additional identification but he reportedly went to his car on the outside and never returned.
On the May 19, the accused was pointed out and held by the police and following an identi-fication parade he was positively identified as Donovan Williams. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
