Police ready to offer their support

The police say they have implemented all necessary measures to effectively carry out their duties during the passage of Hurricane Gustav.

In a release issued by the Constabulary Communication Network yesterday, the Jamaica Constabulary Force noted that "the police have activated their standing orders in support of the National Disaster Response Programme. The measures include the deployment of a police liaison officer to work with each parish disaster committee, the guarding of strategic installations and providing security for designated shelters once they are activated."

According to the release, as it pertains to law enforcement and public order, the police also be implementing measures to hinder acts of looting and vandalism, especially in the country's business districts and evacuated communities. In addition, the monitoring of hot spots will continue.
