Driver charged for murder bailed

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Richard Spencer, 32, the driver charged with the death of three persons following a vehicular accident along the Kitson Town main road, was granted $200,000 bail when he appeared in the Spanish Town RM Court yesterday.

Spencer, from Kingston, was the driver of a trailer which collided with a Hiace minibus driven by pastor Afa Green, 52, who was killed along with Marcia Scott, 30, and her three-year-old daughter Noella. Spencer pleaded guilty before Resident Magistrate Vashti Chatoor. His attorney, Sylvester C. Morris, in applying for bail, told the court that his client lost control of the vehicle as there was a problem with the braking system.

He said Spencer suffered a broken arm and several stab wounds when he was pounced upon by residents. Following this application the RM ruled that Spencer should be granted bail on condition that he returns to court on September 23, report three times weekly to the Half-Way Tree police, and surrender his travel documents to the authorities.
