Two-month old Kadija Haye is held by her mother Cassandra Hayles while the baby's father Wayne Haye joins in the moment during the infant's christening at the Ellerslie Pen New Testament Church of God, along the Spanish Town By-pass on Sunday, August 10. - Anthony Minott

At the tender age of two months and two weeks, Kadija Dejaunae Haye was dedicated to God, along with two other children during a brief ceremony at the Ellerslie Pen New Testament Church of God, located along the Spanish Town By-pass on Sunday, August 10.

The dedication service was led by clergyman Rev Ajilon Ferdinand. The preacher told the children's parents that they have a "tremendous responsibility" and that they should use the teachings of the Bible to train God's precious possessions.

Rev Ferdinand blessed the infants' foreheads with consecrated olive oil, while offering prayers of dedication to God - a symbol of spiritual covering and protection over the children's lives.

Proud mother

The baby's mother Cassandra Hayles, a customer care representative, was all smiles during the ceremony and told THE STAR Life and Times that she was very happy that her child was committed to God at a tender age. "I am proud to be her mother, I'll love and cherish her forever," Miss Hayles expressed. She added that she grew up in a New Testament church and wanted her first child to be blessed in one.

Kadija's Godmother, Shenae Wright, a faithful and supportive friend of the family had this to say: "I have been friends with Kadija's mom for many years and I'll do everything in my power so that she will grow up in an admirable way."

Kadija's father Wayne Haye, a taxi driver, was a bit lost for words. However he said, "The christening ceremony went all right," while thanking the church for accommodating him and his family.

With the christening now over, the couple will turn their attention to raising a child that can contribute positively to society.
