A policeman is claiming that Donovan Williams tried to bribe him with $2,000 because he did not have the proper car documents and so he was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to the charges.
Williams, however, pleaded not guilty to bribery. He is also charged with driving an
unlicensed motor vehicle. The court heard that the police stopped the accused and checked his documents. It was discovered that the vehicle was not licensed and the accused was taken to the police station to be processed.
Hold dis officer
The accused, allegedly, in the presence of other police personnel, put some money in the policeman's hand and said, "hold dis officer and give me a chance." He was arrested and charged. On caution, the accused allegedly said, "A di devil come inna mi."
However, Williams had a different explanation. He said he had the $2,000 to license the vehicle and had taken out the money, while taking out some papers in his pocket. He said he had placed the money on a desk and the policeman came and took it up and said he was trying to bribe him.
The matter is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on September 18 , when it will be mentioned. Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown extended the accused's bail.
