The performances of our athletes in Beijing so far, have done much to lift the spirits of every Jamaican.
Jamaicans at home and even those in the Diaspora are, at this time, feeling a sense of pride that is comparable to none. The fact that we have been able to shine some positive light on our island, if even till these games are over, is a major achievement considering the negative light that we have been portrayed in, thanks to crime.
The eyes of the world are upon us, and for the first in a long time, it is for a positive reason. There is no doubt that there are detractors who will be seeking to discredit our athletes and question their performances, but that is to be expected. In fact, many of us would probably have doubts and questions, too, if we were viewing from the outside.
We can only hope that our athletes continue to show that success is quite possible and attainable without unnatural help, and we hope this message is one that penetrates the psyche of the youngsters who are looking to enter into this field.
We truly believe that we have more glory to come from Beijing and just like the rest of the world, we are waiting to see what else we will have to celebrate about. Anyone who ever doubted our talent and ability, should retreat in shame and embarrassment.
