A US track and field team's protest of the women's 100-meter final at the Olympics has been rejected.
The Americans had asked that the race be reviewed because of a possible false start by Torri Edwards, one of the country's sprinters.
Edwards herself has said she thought she false-started. She wound up finishing last as Shelly-Ann Fraser led a Jamaican sweep of medals in the dash. Fraser finished in a time of 10.78, while teammates Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart finished in a dead heat with a time of 10.98. Lauryn Williams claimed the best position for the United States as she was fourth in a time of Williams (11.03) and finished just ahead of US Olympic trials winner Muna Lee (11.07). Edwards, who had the world's fastest time this season coming into the Olympics, ran 11.20.
The protest was rejected last night.
