P'more United, league champs!

Portmore United won the Pines Imaging Centre/Keith Gentles Portmore Under-17 football league on their second attempt, following a 1-0 extra-time win over former champs Rodwood at Ferdie Neita Park on Sunday.

The all-important goal was scored by Ramon Whittaker in the 100th minute of play. Whittaker's simple tap-in was set up by a good build-up involving Cajay Campbell, who crossed the ball from the right side to Ricardo Webb, who laid the ball across the goal for Whittaker to finish.

Rodwood had their moments when they seemed likely to score first. Their best chance came when super-sub Ricardo Davis got away on goal. He, however, missed a sitter, five minutes into the second half, kicking wide, with Portmore's goalie, Shamai Briscoe at his mercy.

Only one blemish marred Portmore's day. Their captain, Brenton Griffiths, was shown a red card by FIFA referee Dave Peterkin for a dangerous challenge on a Rodwood player with five minutes remaining in the game.

At the end of the match Dr Welsford Sinclair, Radiologist and Manager of Pines Imaging Centre, handed over the championship trophy to the winning Portmore United team.
