Ken's Wildflower builds cricket ground

Ken's Wildflower Sports ground became the latest Cricket ground in Portmore.

Built on eight acres of land in an open lot across from the Garveymeade scheme, the Ken's Wildflower Cricket ground is set to ease the lack of suitable grounds to play cricket in the Sunshine City.

Lester 'Ken' Crooks, president of Ken's Wildflower Sports Club, said that this is a dream of his that is finally coming to reality. He added that: "If we can do things to occupy the youths, then we can deter them from crime."

The club's treasurer Randell Gibson said that "the real objective of the club is to have a leading sports complex in Portmore. Future plans for the complex is the construction of a multi-purpose court, with netball and basketball the chosen sports. To date, the club has spent about $4 million on the project.

The date for the official opening of the ground is not yet set, as other infrastructure needs to be in place.

Ken's Wildflower are the defending champions in the Petcom-sponsored Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League and beaten finalists in the recently concluded Milo-sponsored Port-more Metropolitan Under-15 Cricket League.
