Sherone Simpson
BEIJING, China (CMC)
Jamaican sprinter Sherone Simpson cannot wait to get going in the heats of the 100 metre, as she prepares to launch her bid for gold at the Beijing Olympic stadium, populary known as the 'Bird's Nest', tonight.
"So far everything has been going well. Training has been excellent and I'm looking forward to when I begin competition," an excited Simpson said yesterday.
Simpson is making a comeback after an injury-hit 2007 season and has found top form at the right time.
Returned to her best
A time of 10.95 seconds run in Monaco earlier this year was testament to the fact that the once fastest woman in the world had returned to her best.
"I was happy with how I ran. Technically, I ran a good race and that was what I was working on, and to run 10.95 coming into the Olympics I'm very confident," said Simpson, who won the award for Performance of the Year in 2006 in her home country.
She will face a tough challenge from fellow Jamaican Kerron Stewart and Americans Lauryn Williams and Tori Edwards if she is to win gold in the 100 metres, but Simpson was not bothered by her competition.
"A lot of people are my biggest rivals. I cannot say because I'm going out there thinking about myself and doing what I have to do," she stressed.
