Usain Bolt: I definitely want to double. - file
Unlike local bookies Track Price Plus who have quoted Usain Bolt as the 6-4 favourite to win tomorrow's 100 metres gold at the Beijing Olympics, Corals in England is taking no bets on the current world record holder.
In the latest ante-post listing of its odds, Corals, one of the top bookmaking firms in Europe, has bypassed betting on Bolt. Instead, Corals is offering 2-1 for the American Tyson Gay to win, closely followed by former world record holder Asafa Powell at 9-4. Bolt and Powell are Jamaican teammates.
Bolt to win
Meanwhile, Track Price Plus, the island's leading bookmaking company, still offers 6-4 on Bolt to win the 100 metres final, closely followed by Gay at 7-4 and Powell at the attractive odds of 11-4. Should Powell win, he will pay $750 to win on each $200 stake, or $3,750 on each $1,000 bet with Track Price, or $37,500 for a $10,000 stake.
Bolt at 6-4 will more than double your stake, but he is surprisingly at shorter odds, 11-10, to win the sprint double and 7-2 to win three gold medals (including the sprint relay). He is an overwhelming favourite at 1-5 for the 200 metres gold, followed by the Americans Walter Dix and Wallace Spearmon both at 9-1.
Attractive odds
Track Price is offering attractive odds of 11-1 against Bolt not winning any gold medal, while he is 6-1 to win the 200 metres final in record time. The Jamaica men's and women's sprint relay teams are favourites to oblige as well.
Incidentally, Track Price Plus is offering 3-1 odds against any of three principals to win 100 metres gold in record time. Bolt holds the record of 9.72 seconds.
