AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter, Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
For persons who use Marcus Garvey Drive or take the Portmore Toll they would realise that the traffic lights under the overhead bridge have been out for sometime. Motorists have been, for the most part, carefully, demanding their right of way as they cross the usually busy intersection. Minor accidents and traffic jams have been the reality of the motorists who make this road a part of their regular route.
This should change soon. When contacted, the National Works Agency said they had only just received a report on the broken lights and would attend to it promptly.
On the other side of town, Vineyard Town, we hope that the same urgency will be applied to Lydia Davis' situation. Davis and her family have been living at the mercy of the weather and a gully after the wall separating her yard from the gully fell in 2005. We pray that both the hurricane season and the NWA will be gracious to her.
