Man accused killing woman remanded

WESTERN BUREAU

A man accused of fatally stabbing his friend during an altercation involving a woman was remanded when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Dwayne Eunise, 29, a customer service representative of Samuel Prospect in Trelawny, turned himself in to the Montego Bay police.

This was following the killing of Leshane 'Shawn' McKay, 19, of Cornwall Courts, St James, in an incident in the community on August 7.

Allegations are that McKay was standing at his gate with the mother of Eunise's child when the accused came on the scene and asked to speak with the woman. However, the woman refused and told him to leave, but he insisted that she speak with him.

Pulled a knife

Further allegations are that McKay intervened and told the accused to leave and pushed Eunise towards his car. It is alleged that when they walked closer to the vehicle, Eunise allegedly pulled a knife, which he used to stab McKay five times in the abdomen and upper body.

McKay was taken to hospital by his father, who noticed that his son's intestines were protruding. McKay later died. The court is awaiting the post-mortem report and two statements to complete the file.

Defence attorney Roy Fairclough informed the court that he would reserve his bail application until the file is completed. The case is scheduled for mention on September 3.
