WESTERN BUREAU:
The case against a man who allegedly locked a woman in his house against her will, was adjourned sine die in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court.
The ruling was made after the complainant expressed fear to attend court.
Clive Plummer of Ironshore in St. James was arrested in June and charged with abduction and assault with intent to rape. Since then, he remained in custody pending the legal aid assignment of a lawyer .
On Tuesday when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry, the court was reminded that the complainant in the matter had been receiving threats from persons, who could not be identified, and hence expressed a desire to discontinue the matter out of fear for her life.
The matter was adjourned, however, RM Henry reminded Johnson that the matter could still be brought before the court if he interferes with the complainant.
MADE SEVERAL ADVANCE
It is alleged that on June 25, the complainant went to Plummer's home to collect some money he had agreed to lend her. He allegedly invited her inside and while she was in the house, he made sexual advances at her. She however pushed him off and told him to let her out of the house.
It is further alleged that as she approached the door to leave, Plummer hit her in the face and locked the grill. Further allegations are that he told her that she could not leave until she had sex with him.
The complainant managed to call the Coral Gardens police who subsequently went to the house.
The court also heard that the police pleaded with the accused to release the complainant and after a 45-minute stand-off, the police had to pry open the locks to the grill in order to enter the house.
When Plummer was arrested he allegedly told the police the complainant was being difficult in granting his request.
"What yu woulda do as a man?" he allegedly asked the police constable who arrested him.
