Trelawny man in court for robbery

WESTERN BUREAU:

A Trelawny man, who allegedly robbed a child of his cellular phone, money and a satellite receiver, was re-manded when he appeared before the Montego Bay Re-sident Magistrate's Court yes-terday.

"Ah, telling you straight from mi heart, mi not guilty," said 45-year-old Lascelles Smith of Wiltshire, Trelawny.

Smith is answering charges of robbery with aggravation.

Smith is accused of robbing the boy at knifepoint, as he stood at the door of a supermarket on Barnett Street in Montego Bay. He allegedly stole a Nokia cell phone, valued at $3,000; a knapsack containing a $13,000 satellite dish receiver and $130 cash.

The court heard that the child was standing at the supermarket on July 25 when he felt some-thing pressing at his side. He turned around and allegedly saw the accused holding a knife. Smith allegedly told the boy to turn around.

He allegedly robbed the complainant and escaped in the Railway Lane area. The child started crying and returned home where he told his father what happened.

It is alleged that the following day, the boy and his father went to the Montego Bay Police and made a report. The accused was apprehended and pointed out by the youngster the same day.

Smith, who was without legal representation, was remanded for legal aid assessment. He is scheduled to return to court on August 14.
