Pinned - Man pleads guilty to phonecard fraud

Basil Batchelor, the operations manager for MC Systems Limited is facing a charge of larceny as a servant. He pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday for downloading phonecard pin numbers valuing more than $3 million.

The clerk of the court in stating the allegations against Batchelor, said he had been downloading the pin numbers for approximately two years. During the period November 2005 to January 2007, the court was told that Batchelor used the point of sale (POS) application to achieve his task.

Other allegations in the matter are that Batchelor was able to sell the pin numbers to outsiders in the Corporate Area.

This act was a breach since MC Systems was contracted to sell the pin numbers only to the cellphone companies.

The court was again told that a spreadsheet application showed the details of the sales made outside of the contract.

Resident Magistrate Glen Brown ordered a probation report on Batchelor and he is to return to court on September 4 for sentencing.
