RUM TALK will be closing too fast for MAJOR MAYER in tomorrow's 2000-metre Prime Minister's Stakes after his smashing seasonal debut with top weight 57.0 kilos over a mile on July 12.
Beaten out of sight in his last two races, the Superstakes and Caribbean Classic at the backend of last season, the Philip Feanny-trained four-year-old was reprogrammed and won strongly mid-July, clocking 1:38.3 for a mile.
RUM TALK beat American-bred GOOD CITIZEN in Open Allowance company with another foreigner, FIRSTINTHESAND, a further two-and-a-half lengths away in third.
Neither could be considered Grade I contenders, meaning RUM TALK should have a tougher task at hand against MAJOR MAYER and old rival ALLIEDFORCE, who has not lost in his last three starts.
However, RUM TALK has returned equipped with new arsenal, speed, which he lacked as a three-year-old. His July 12 win had a half-mile split of 47.0 and 1:11.4 for six furlongs, in which he disposed of THE BOMBER from early.
MAJOR MAYER, who carried 60.5 kilos, also ran strong splits when winning over a mile on July 5, but was coming back in the end to an equally heavy CHADMAN in a slow 1:40.0.
ALLIEDFORCE is on a four-timer and returns with 59.5 kilos, the same as RUM TALK and 1.5 kilo lighter than MAJOR MAYER.
The Noel Ennevor-trained horse beat a rusty MAJOR MAYER on April 12 in the Legal Light Trophy at 1820 metres, but could be beaten for speed as his old rival and RUM TALK have hit form in mid-year, pointed towards the big Graded Stakes races for the remainder of the season.
MAJOR MAYER will try making all but the lightweights, AITCHEMESBEAGLE and IVAN THE TERRIBLE should keep him honest for RUM TALK to pounce.
Track Price Plus Pick-6 players should look to champion trainer Wayne DaCosta for a quick double, UNBREAKABLE HEART and GOOD COMPANY in the first and third races, sandwiched by Anthony Ferguson's GALLANT GIRL in the second.
THE SMOKER is down in class and should beat rivals in the seventh at 1400 metres and MINISTEROFJUSTICE should land the 1400-metre Thorough-bred Owners and Breeders Association Trophy for the seventh race.
Speedy UNBREAKABLE HEART should peel away from rivals, including stablemate THE GUARDIAN at 1100 metres. THE GUARDIAN got the better of UNBREAKABLE HEART at 1100 metres on May 24 when second behind FLAGAMAN.
However, in addition to raring at the gate, UNBREAKABLE HEART was unfancied as it was another stablemate, MR SKILL, who was the howling favourite for that event.
GOOD COMPANY should make amends for his recent battling loss to AD INIFINITUM in the third at a mile, closing what should be a good double as Anthony Ferguson's GALLANT GIRL should be rewarded for her battling second to SECRET CAT at 1200 metres.
THE SMOKER should have no problems against claimers in the seventh, even though returning off a three-month lay-up. The five-year-old grey beat Overnight Allowance off a four-month rest back in February.
Close all bets with MINISTER-OFJUSTICE in the 10th at 1400 metres after being run off his legs by the talented filly STAR OF THE SEA at 1700 metres on July 26.
