Teen accused of murder to face Family Court

Tashieka Mair, Star Writer
WESTERN BUREAU

A 17-year-old teenager accused of fatally stabbing another teen is to face the Family Court on August 4 after his case was transferred from the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court.

On Thursday, when the accused appeared before Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry, he was granted $250,000 bail.

He is also required to visit the Mount Salem Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, as part of his bail. Additionally, he was placed under curfew and was told to be at home between 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

deadly fight

Allegations are that on July 9, he was involved in a fight with the other teen in Green Pond, St James. He allegedly ran to his house and returned with a knife, which was used to inflict the fatal wound.

However, after hearing the allegations, a furious defence attorney, Roy Fairclough, described it as "contrived lies being swallowed up by the police".

Fairclough said his client was robbed of his cellular phone by the other teen, who he described as a bully.

He added that his client pleaded for the return of his phone but was instead beaten with stones and a baton. The lawyer further stated that the deceased was the one who was armed with a knife and this was the same knife that was used to inflict the wound.

conflicting arguments

Fairclough argued that his client had the scars to show from the beating he had received. But the investigating officer said he was not informed of this, and the witness's account also contradicted the lawyer's claims.
