Man pleads not guilty to fraud

A businessman accused of dishonouring three cheques amounting to $275,000, which he gave to another businessman for goods, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Peter Martin appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to answer to three counts of fraudulent conversion.

The court was told that Martin took goods from the man and paid him with three cheques, which were later dishonoured. However, Martin, who was in custody, said he had paid the complainant $90,000 towards the bill last Friday and was going to pay the balance.

Senior RM Glen Brown then granted the accused $50,000 bail with surety to return to court on September 2. His fingerprints were also ordered taken.
