No one to collect body

The police in Clarendon say if a relative of Carlton McLeod does not come forward in a week, then arrangements will be sought to have the Govern-ment pay for his burial.

McLeod, 48, was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Busta-mante Highway, in Clarendon, on May 30.

Speaking with The Star on Thursday, Detective Sergeant Franklyn Brown of the May Pen police said the police have been unable to locate any of the family members of the deceased since the tragic incident two months ago.

no family

"Since he was killed, no one has come forward identifying themselves as family members. We were not even able to ascertain an address for him. He has just been there in the morgue for the past two months," the lawman said. "If no one comes forward in the next week or so, we will have to have the Government bury him."

The body of McLeod has been at the Johnson funeral home in the parish since the accident. According to the police, he was identified by his fingerprints, which also revealed that he had been convicted on an assault charge back in the 1980s.

Attempts to get a response from the proprietor of the funeral home were unsuccessful. However, an employee told The Star that to date, no one had gone to the home identifying themselves as friends or family of the deceased.
