Being a deejay was always the aim for upcoming artiste 21-year-old Bramma D' Bomma, and since entering the business, he has been getting tremendous support from other established artistes.
Bramma, whose real name is Lloyd Brammer, says he became a deejay as a way out of trouble.
"Back inna high school (Calabar High), it keep mi out a whole heap a trouble. Everybody weh mi grow wid, who nuh dead, deh a jail. Music was my escape from that. Mi a di only child fi mi mother and mi neva waan dead lef' har," he said.
Corner or music
He added, "Mi lef Calabar wid four CXC and she (mother) neva have no money fi send mi go anywhere else so it was either mi deh pon di corner or do music."
Immediately after finishing high school in 2002, Bramma started a professional career in music; getting links with several dancehall big names like Vybz Kartel, Delly Ranks and Bounty Killer.
"Dem hear mi talent and encourage mi. Mi feel blessed as a young youth fi know seh so much elder a look out fi mi," said Bramma who grew up in Maxfield Avenue, Kingston.
Fellow youngster, Stephen 'Di genius' McGregor was also a source of help to Bramma. He has done several songs on Stephen's rhythms like Wow on the 'work out' rhythm and the single Changes. He says their link is so strong that people might hear him on all of Stephen's upcoming rhythms.
High praise
"Mi haffi big up Stephen 'cause him alone a di yute weh see mi pon di corner as a juvenile and tell mi seh mi talented and mi fi link him. Mi and him a bredda; Chino and Freddie McGregor tek mi in like mi a family," said Bramma.
While he has high praises for Stephen, he says he has worked with other production houses like Chimney Records where he did songs like Value of a Lady and My Own which features Vybz Kartel.
He might not be a well known artiste in Jamaica, but he says his songs are doing well in Europe where he will do a promotional tour in September. He will visit 10 countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria. He says he has also been getting calls from bookers in Africa and the United States where people want him for shows or to record with him.
Bramma says he has no immediate plans for an album because he wants to release more singles and become known by the Jamaican public.
