Corporal recovering steadily

Dwayne Mcleod, Staff Reporter

The detective corporal who was shot and injured while attempting to capture two wanted men in St Elizabeth is reportedly recovering well since the incident.

The policeman was reportedly shot while he attempted to detain one of two suspects wanted in connection with a rape and abduction case.

The two men, 20-year-old Devon Green of Phantiland district, Pepper in the parish, and Richard Oliver, 22, of Palmer's Cross, Clarendon, were held at a restaurant and subsequently charged in connection with the offences which were allegedly committed earlier this month.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network, about 8:45 p.m., two policemen responded to reports that the men were seen in a restaurant. On approach, the men were seen leaving the establishment. One of the men was appre-hended while the other was said to have ran back into the building, with one of the detective corporal in chase.

While trying to detain the suspect, the injured cop was shot by another policeman who was reportedly a customer and not aware of his colleague's identity.
