The Editor, Sir:
Let us look back on 1965 when the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) was implemented by the late L.G. Newland, the then Minister of Labour & Social Security.
Let us take a good look at the achievements of the NIS during the past four decades. It has provided more benefits for more people in numbers than any other social institution in this country. Its benefits are growing each year, and the generation in the future will inherit greater benefits.
Seeing that the NIS has been in operation for more than 40 years, there are many young people who do not know what Mr Newland looked like. I believe his picture should be on the pension order so the young people and future generations will be able to see the great man who created such an institution that is holding together a great portion of our social and economic growth.
Yes, we are seeing the pictures of our greats on our money, so why can't we see the picture of this great man on the pension order that has the value of money?
Let us take our achievements into the future with great dignity so future generations will show appreciation to our people when greatness is achieved. I thank you.
I am, etc.,
