WORLD 100 metres hurdles bronze medallist, Delloreen Ennis-London, continued her fine season when she scored a good win in the Paris Golden League meet in France yesterday. There was also a second place finish for national 400 metres hurdles champion Danny McFarlane at the same meet.
Ennis-London who finished a close second to Brigitte Foster-Hylton in last week's Rome Golden League and who scored a good win earlier in the week in Greece was again in top form yesterday.
convincing style
Showing good composure all the way, Ennis-London won her pet event in convincing style in 12.66 seconds. American Joanna Hayes, the 2004 Olympic champion who failed to make the United States team to the Beijing Games, finished second in 12.76 just ahead of her teammate Dawn Harper in third place in 12.79. Spain's Josephine Onyia again failed to spark as she ended fourth in 12.85.
Drawn in the dreaded lane eight in the men's 400 metres hurdles, the veteran McFarlane as usual went out fast and although slowing down in the middle ran on strongly to finish second in 48.71. World leader Kerron Clement of the United States, following his victory in Rome last week, continued his winning ways by taking the event in 48.33 as another American, Angello Taylor, was third in 48.91. American Bershawn Jackson, the 2005 World Champion, finished a disappointing fourth in 48.92.
The other Jamaican competing yesterday, sprinter Dwight Thomas, was fourth in the 100 metres. Trinidad and Tobago's Marc Burns won the event in 10.14.
Following two defeats this season to countryman LaShawn Merritt over the 400 metres and a narrow win in Rome last week, World and Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner showed his best form this season. Looking his old self, Wariner made a decisive move at the 200m mark and pulled away from his rivals to win in a world leading 43.86. Merritt who tightened up towards the end was second in 44.35 with the Bahamas' Chris Brown, third in 44.76.
commanding 12.88
Cuba's Dayron Robles continued his dream season over the 110 metre hurdles as he won in a commanding 12.88 with second place finisher Terrence Trammell of the United States way behind in 13.19.
Top 400m runner Sanya Richard stepped down in distance to win the 200m in 22.56. She clipped American teammates Carmelita Jeter (22.58) and Muna Lee (22.59).
Kenya's Pamela Jelimo and Blanka Vlasic of Croatia kept their million dollar jackpot hopes alive as they won their respective events. Jelimo ran away with the women's 800 metres event winning in a world junior record one minute 54.97 seconds. Vlasic won the high jump with a best of 2.01 metres.
