-Champions Mandeville New Testament Church show off the Dr Delford Davis Trophy for Excellence after they won the Power of Faith Ministries Twenty/20 Church Cricket league.Mandeville New Testa-ment, the only church cricket team outside of Portmore in the Power of Faith Ministries Twenty/20 Church Cricket League, walked away with the most awards at a presentation ceremony at Power of Faith's Multi-purpose Complex, in Portmore Town Centre, recently.
Mandeville's awards included the big one, The Dr. Delford Davis Trophy for Excellence for winning the league. They also won individual awards in best all-rounder, Christopher Gayle, who scored 92 runs and took six wickets; leading bowler, Richard Young, nine wickets, at an average of 4.5 runs per wicket; and leading batsman, Brian Clarke, 107 runs, at an average of 21.4.
Other players awarded included, Miracle Open Bible's Lushane Black, who received two awards. Black the best bowling figures, 4-4 off three overs, and the only hat-trick since the inception of the league. Faith Temple's Mark English with a superb knock of 66 runs, received the award for most runs in a match.
Bishop Davis, in whose honour the trophy is named, jokingkly said that in a short time, his trophy would be back in Portmore.
However, on a more serious note, the clergyman said he hoped that more churches in Portmore would feel the 'spirit' of the competition and come on board. He said the real vision of the competition was to bring souls into the Kingdom of God.
The guest speaker was Renford Pinnock O.D., a member of the panel of umpires.
At the end of the presentation, Mark Williamson, chief coordinator of the league, thanked all who supported the competition and hoped for bigger and better things next year.
