Accused rapist cries 'bad luck'

A man accused of taking a 15-year-old girl to his house and raping her said he was innocent, and described the case against him as 'bad luck'.

Kevin Bundy, a 32-year-old barber, told the court that he did not know the complainant was so young, and that she consented to having sex. "It was willing between me and her and the condom burst and I told her that," he said.

Bundy, who was granted $50,000 bail with surety, is facing charges of rape and false imprisonment. He appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to answer to the charges.

Bad luck

He noted that the incident occurred a month ago and it was only Saturday that he was hearing that she was now pregnant. "Just di first time and the one time and a my bad luck," he said.

Bundy, who is to return to court on Friday, told presiding Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that this was the last time he was going to get into trouble and appear before the court. "Mi nah come back a court fi no problem again. If me did know har age mi woulden even look pan har," he said.

The court heard that the complainant went with the accused, as he had told her he was taking her to go and buy food.

It is alleged that he stopped at his home on the way and made advances towards the complainant. When she did not comply, it is further alleged that he held her down and had sexual intercourse with her. The court was then told that she is now pregnant.
