Windward Islands captain Keron Cottoy tormented Jamaica with his leg-spin bowling again yesterday and placed his side on a clear victory path in their third-round TCL Group West Indies Under-19 match yesterday.
Jamaica secured a 66-run first innings lead when they bowled out the Windwards for 108 after lunch on the second day of the three-day fixture at Kensington Oval.
But Cottoy hit back with a five-wicket haul that ruined Jamaica's second innings for an appalling 59 all out, and the Windwards - set 126 for victory - were on course for their first win of the series, closing at 41 without loss.
Earlier, the Windwards had endured a disastrous morning session after resuming their first innings at four for one in reply to the Jamaicans' 174 all out.
Flattened top order
They plunged to 74 for seven at lunch after pacer Gifton Wray flattened the top order with a five-wicket burst.
Wray finished with figures of seven for 33 off 10 overs, and Jermaine Blackwood picked up two for 12 off 6.1 overs to help the Jamaicans secure a clear first-innings advantage.
In Jamaica's second innings, opening batsman Nick Blackwood top-scored with 19 and he was sixth out, while the young West Indies Under-15 player Donovan Nelson (14) was the only other batsman getting to double figures in a dramatic batting collapse.
Cottoy, en route to his second consecutive 10-wicket match haul, dismissed Maverick Perry (9) at 39 for five, and without addition to the score, the off-spinner Dalton Polius clutched a return catch from Nick Blackwood (0).
Cottoy bagged five for 13 off 4.4 overs for a match haul of 10 for 66, while George (2-11) and Johnson
(2-14) shared four wickets.
