Being trendy for the summer is all about knowing what's hot and what's not to wear for the season.
Fashion is always changing, especially in the dancehall which is all about being trendy, loud and outstanding. On the party scene persons have not been outdone showing off all the latest styles.
For the women, dresses and shorts to showcase the legs are what's red hot. THE STAR caught up with a few popular stores around town and some designers to find out what is in for the season.
Short, light materials
For the popular store, Shimmer, what they have been seeing as a popular trend are short, light materials suited for the summer heat. According to Mark Brown from Shimmer, "there has been a demand from women for dresses in sheer floral prints, short jersey dresses whether plain or with prints, baby doll dresses as well as jumpshirts which is like a merino but more dressy.
Accessory wise women are into oversized bags that are good for the beach and for night, jewel encrusted clutch bags that pimp up any outfit. Colour is in this summer at Shimmer with lime and neon green being big sellers followed by yellow and shades of orange."
Long bohemian dresses
For Candice Lloyd from another 'it' store, Closet Therapy, fashion doesn't really change that much but some trends tend to come back into style after a while. Some of the trends that she noted as being in style again are long bohemian dresses that flair as well as corsets. Colours such as white and turquoise according to Candice, are back in for the summer. When it comes to accessories, classic gold and silver are always a must.
Saint International Avant Garde winner Melissa Dunkley agreed that being cool for the hot summer should be what summer fashion is all about. "For the women cool, long and short flowery summer dresses, nothing form fitting 'cause it's too hot and you don't want anything that will hug your body. It's the same for the men, refined lined pants, sandals and a muscle shirt is good. Lots of linen and cotton is excellent for summer," she commented.
