Yvonne Foster achieved the impressive feat of being crowned women's champion for the fourth year running at the tender age of 15. Foster won the final emphatically as she overpowered Shenique Clare in straight sets 11-9, 11-7, 11-4, 11-4. In order to reach the final, Foster had to overcome Andrea Wadsworth, a task she completed with ease as she romped home 4-0. The other women's semi-final hung in the balance with Clare scraping through 4-3 against Shaunda Brash.
Toughly contested final
The men's champion, Moo Young, won the national title for the very first time in a toughly contested final which he won by four sets to two. Moo Young vanquished a worthy opponent in Joseph Dibbs, the two-time former champion, as he won the final 10-12, 11-4, 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6.
In the men's semi-finals, Dibbs comfortably defeated Rudolph Sinclair 4-1 and Moo Young won by default against Alphanso Morris. Both Moo Young's and Dibbs' path to the final was made easier by the fact that defending men's champion Nigel Webb did not participate.
In parish team events played last Friday, St Catherine and St Andrew won the men's and women's crowns respectively. St Catherine won their first title in recent times in contrast to the St Andrew women's team who have won the crown for the last five years.
