Summer Splash: A tea party

Dwayne Mcleod, Staff Reporter

Bugle

When the selector uttered, "jus gwaan hol a vibes ya," before repeating himself five minutes later, it was obvious that he too was in agreement that the early stages of RE TV's High School Tour 'Summer Splash' was a bit boring.

The event, slated to begin at 6 p.m., looked like a typical hang-out spot three hours after, as the handful of kids who had made their way inside the Mas Camp, on Oxford Road, New Kingston, last Saturday, chose merely to socialise despite the relatively good 'spinning' from the sound system selectors.

After selecting a couple hits on the rebirth, copa, steps and ice breaka rhythms to little reaction, the Bloodline Sound drew for an arsenal of R&B jams, such as Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks' No Air and Snoop Dogg's Sensual Seduction, still to little response.

Tea party

"Mi nuh want nobody think is a tea party or a dead yard eno ... Unnu free up nuh" the selector begged.

After another attempt by the Renaissance crew to incite some form of excitement, it was time for the high school sound clash, which managed to attract the interest of the teen patrons.

DJ Andre Young from Kingston College and DJ Bizzle of Meadowbrook High School were billed to face off in a clash comprising of three rounds.

In the end, DJ Bizzle won the cheers of patrons and walked away with bragging rights and $50,000 as he shrugged off an early and impressive show from his opponent whose demeanour could easily be mistaken for over-confidence.

Cry for 'Help

Bling Dawg

Omari's cry for Help was heard by fellow Gospel artiste Ryan Mark with whom he shared a brief set to open the stage show segment of the party, which had to be rushed due to time constraints.

Andrew and Wada Blood were up next to Hustle til I die, while Serani found favour with the crowd as he sang, Study People, which noticeably raised the most cheers from the kids who, at earlier stages of the party, looked lifeless.

The singer enjoyed a number of forwards before calling out 'his artiste' Bugle and introducing 'special guest' Demarco, yet again to more cheers.

Christopher Martin, Left Side, Bling Dawg, Tyrical, Shane O and RDX were among others who graced the stage.

Shortly after 1 a.m., it was Voicemail who was on stage giving a string of dance instructions, while a number of kids left the venue.
