Runnels, the new eight-ball champ

Chicago-based Ike Runnels won the lucrative Heineken International/MoBay Proper double elimination eight-ball open pool tournament at the MoBay Proper Sports Bar and Grill, on Fort Street last weekend.

He defeated last year's winner Danny Gohkul 3-2 and 3-0 to secure the attractive first prize of $120,000 and the Heineken championship trophy.

Gohkul received $50,000 for second, while Rhys Chen-Clarke was third and Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove from Montego Bay fourth, both receiving $25,000 for their efforts.

The tournament was very well supported. A total of 64 players from all over the island took part, including several from Portmore.

Meanwhile, Ewart Hall won the recent Mystix eight-ball A class pool tournament at Hagley Park Road, blanking Montego Bay-based Noel 'Schoolboy' Blagrove 3-0 in the best of five final.

For his efforts, Hall who has won a number of tournaments in and around the Corporate Area during the past year, received $25,000 and the Mystix Trophy, while Blagrove secured $10,000 for second. Andre Meeks clipped Calhoun Melville 3-2 for third place.

In the B class final, Feyisara Bernard from MoBay Proper defeated Richie Gold 3-1 and also picked up $25,000.
