WATERY CLOSET

Dear Pastor,

I am a 20-year-old Jamaican male now studying architecture in the USA. All my life I have lived what most people call 'the perfect life.' I wouldn't say that I come from a rich family, but I can afford to buy things that are not necessary. I played football and even played for my high school and, also, I have had sex with numerous girls.

Pastor, I have a big problem. I am also attracted to other guys. I know it's an abomination to be having these feelings, but I can't help myself. Back home, I have had occasional sex with a guy, but we weren't together because I'm still in the closet. At times I hate myself for the way I feel and have thoughts of committing suicide, but I know that that is an even dumber thing to do. Apart from the guy that I have been with, no one else knows about my secret. I am very afraid to go to counselling because I don't want to admit to anyone that I'm bisexual. I don't know how to get rid of these feelings.

Pastor, could you please give me your advice?

A.C., New Jersey, USA

Dear A.C.,

I suggest that you put away pride and call a Christian psychologist and make an appointment to see him/her.

If you did not have a desire to change, you wouldn't have written. You are living in New Jersey. I am sure there are many psychologists there. May God help you to change your lifestyle!

Pastor
