A 40-year-old Portmore man was fined $34,000 or 30 days' hard labour in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court recently.
Pleading guilty for no insurance coverage, no seat belt, no driver's licence and driving away motor vehicle without owner's consent is Leroy Kentish.
Special Constable Garland Barrett of the Portmore Police Station told the court that on June 12 about 2:45 p.m., police spotted a Toyota Townace motor vehicle being driven by Kentish along the Braeton Parkway. Kentish could not provide them with any documentation for the vehicle.
He initially said that he was the owner of a driver's licence for more than 20 years, but forgot his wallet. This was proven to be a lie. He was subsequently charged by the police.
When he appeared before RM Marcia Dunbar-Green, he pleaded guilty. He was the fined and suspended from owning a driver's licence for the next 12 months.
