Motorsport fans from all over the island are expected to turn out in droves at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston, for the start of the two-day Caribbean Karting Carnival, which begins tomorrow.
"The track is a beauty and looks good. We are eager to go out there and test our karts," said Frederico Montoya, a former world Easykart champion.
Responding to questions about which of the karters he is most fearful of, Montoya laughed before making his comment.
"When the starter raises his flag we will know," said the Colombian national who resides in Miami.
He was the world Easykart champion two years ago, and has been very active on the international circuit. A lot is expected from his teammates Dominic Scheer, another Easykart champion who finished in the top 10 of the United States championship.
upbeat and anxious
Also expected are Dore Chaponick, the 2008 Florida Winter Tour Minimax Champion, and Jordan Perry, 2007 Homestead Florida Champion, who will be coming to take on local Minimax champions Colin Daley Jr and Thomas Issa.
The Trinidadians who were the first to arrive, are upbeat and anxious.
"I am hoping that the events will be very competitive," said Mark Gill, one of the Trinidad and Tobago karters.
He singled out Timmy Stewart and Joel Jackson as two of the talented Jamaicans he has knowledge about, but said that his countryman, Ravi Singh, is the man they all have to beat. Singh will be racing in the Shifter Class.
Gerrard Carrington and team doctor, Michael Boboolal, believe the Trinidadians will make their presence felt throughout the championship. The other members include; Brent Hurdle, Shahinder Singh, Ravi Singh, David Coelho, Raj Baboolal, John Paul Tannous, Ricardo Arguilera, Nicholas Narine Singh and Fyzool Madan
Jamaicans Johnathan Law and Dane Lawson have been doing some excellent times at training.
