A man who was accused of chopping off another man's hand during a dispute has been freed by a Home Circuit Court jury.
Adrian Duncan, 22, of Franklin Town, Kingston, was freed of wounding with intent.
The Crown led evidence before Justice Bertram Morrison (acting) and the jury that on May 15, 2006, he took a machete and chopped David Holder on the left hand, severing it.
Holder testified that im-mediately as he and his mother alighted from a taxi in Franklin Town, Duncan came to ask him about some CDs. He told him the did not know anything about them. Duncan ran into his yard, came out with a machete which he used to chop him.
Chicken parts
Cross-examined by defence lawyer Vincent Wellesley, Holder denied telling the accused that on the last occasion he had chopped up the accused and his brother like chicken parts.
In his defence, Duncan said it was Holder who attacked him with a ratchet knife. He said Holder stabbed him in his left side and was about to stab him again when he took up a machete off a wall in front of his house and chopped Holder in self-defence.
He called a witness who supported his defence.
