The Portmore police recovered a home-made 'double mouth' shotgun in Dunbeholden, St Catherine, yesterday.
Reports from the St Catherine South police are that about 12:30 p.m., Detective Corporal Cliff Coleman from the Bridgeport Police Station, acting on information, went into the community and searched an abandoned building where a 12-calibre home-made shotgun was found with one round of ammunition.
Detective Coleman said, although it is a home-made gun, it is actually capable of firing two cartridges simultaneously.
"It is obvious that the men who made this gun have some sort of training in gun manufacturing and it is a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands," he said. He added that a spring is used to release the bullets, and not the trigger.
No one was arrested in connection with the find, but the Portmore police will be keeping a close eye on the community. The police have recovered 45 illegal guns in the St Catherine South Division since the start of the year. "I have a passion for people's lives and anywhere the guns are, I am going to get them. I want people to feel safe and live in comfort," detective Coleman said.
