Think before you press the record button

Two stories in The Star recently spoke of the sex tapes of popular people within the Jamaican society whose not-so-private sex acts were recorded and leaked into the public domain.

Yes, sex has always been there, but now it is screaming at us. Pause for a second and try thinking back to, let's say, 1995, the days when one would think that Bluetooth was a dental disorder.

Could you have put on a merino and some slippers and just run to the nearest sidewalk and purchase sex movies (DVD) as if they were cotton candy? Or would you even be on the lookout for the next sex tape? We think not.

Obviously, nothing is wrong with cable television, camera phones and the Internet. It is how we use them. And in the case of the latter two, we, in recent times, seem to be using them to distribute and record things we probably saw on a 'foreign' channel. It is something we would probably not have done before.

Is this the great 'foreign-mindedness' of our fellow Jamaicans at work? Please bear in mind that each time you record, you run the chance of getting your business out in the streets and exposing impressionable mind to your tapes.

And, quite frankly, it won't take much for anyone to come across these images thanks to the free market. All that is required is a walk through the city or a Blue-tooth enabled cellphone.
