Mid-season champion Black River United will take a 2-1 lead over Parottee United when they square off in the second leg final of the St Elizabeth/Wray and Nephew Major League on Sunday at the Appleton Estate Sports Complex.
In the rain-affected first leg played at the Lacovia Community Centre last Thursday, Timothy Heywood scored for the Clive Thompson-coached team in the 25th and 50th minutes while Michael Rowe got the opening goal for the Godfrey 'Cop' Dunkley team in the 10th minute.
"We were under heavy pressure from the Parottee team but our experience brought us out of a ditch and gave us the win," Coach Thompson said.
However, Coach Thompson, who has won the Division One three times - 1991-92, 1993-94 and 1995-96 and beaten finalist last season, said he is very confident his team will take their first Major League crown this season.
"On Sunday we will be going into the game with a tactical and disciplined approach," Thompson said.
Coach Dunkley, who is very happy to have reached his first major final, said bad vibes in the team's camp contributed to their loss.
Poor defence
"We played well up to the first 25 minutes in the game when Black River equalised and from then we played poorly in defence and we lost it," Dunkley said.
In the meantime, he said, they will be going all out in attack come Sunday. "We are the best attacking team in the competition, scoring all of 39 goals and Black River are the best defensive team scoring 32, but we will be attacking with all guns firing this Sunday," Coach Dunkley said.
