( L - R ) Dappa Zap and Tally Phoenix
Just For Peace, an organisation from Spanish Town, has set out on a campaign to reduce criminal activities, especially among youths, and to transform the Jamaican society by instilling discipline through music.
Two such artistes sending out this message are Dappa Zap and Tally Phoenix.
Their objectives are to help Jamaican youth realise their musical talent and give them an avenue to express themselves effectively to people at all levels.
With Spanish Town being one of the hot spots for criminal activities , frequently causing many business operators to close their shutters, students have also suffered as they are sometimes forced to stay home during the violent flare-ups.
Just For Peace now targets the volatile communities such as Rivoli, March Pen Road, Homestead, Tawes Pen and
St John's Road.
Dappa Zap and Tally Phoenix joined Just For Peace nearly two months ago. They are products of the initiative.
Snapping fingers
Vincent Bryan otherwise known as Tally Phoenix says his love for music began at age five when he was caught snapping his fingers to the tone of artistes like Shabba Ranks and Pinchers.
Years later at Vere Technical High School a career in music was evident. "I was now writing lyrics. "Schoolas dem nah nuh chance for ducters nah deal wid dem right," he said.
One of his recent performances at a peace mobile concert in Kingston had people calling for more.
Born Adrian Seville, Dappa Zap, claims his name suggests trend-setter. He proved to be that when he performed his single Mama at a peace concert in Kencot, Kingston. This, enhanced by the singjay's stage performance had the scene lit with lighters and encores.
Dappa feels his hard work has paid off. "My fans must be able to feel the experience and respond to this. As an entertainer your lyrics must be sending a strong message if you want to be successful," Dappa Zap said.
Dappa also has other songs such as Hot Girl and Think Big and You'll Live Big. The sing-jay recalls getting a good dosage of voicing from Youthman Promotions at age thirteen.
Since joining Just For Peace they have been up to much in getting the message of positivity out there with Mama being a hit in England, and songs being played throughout France, The Bahamas and Cayman. The two have tours coming up in England in July and in Canada during December.
