Designer Samarah Bryan is hoping to launch her line in a big way in the fashion industry. The brainchild behind Dime Piece Clothing was recently crowned the winner of the D'Angel Designer competition.
An artist who paints and does portrait drawings, Bryan had fashion designing on the back burner until recently.
"When I went to Edna Manley, I did computer graphics but I realised I had a knack for designing clothes so I diverted a bit. I have been designing since high school though, and gave the items to my mom to sew until about three years ago when I started sewing for myself," Bryan said.
Since then Bryan has made designs for her line, the name of which she got from a friend. According to Bryan, the friend told her 'dime piece' stood for a woman who has everything and who is 'all that'.
Denim suits
Dime Piece designs feature mainly female clothing, and men's shirts. Bryan's designs can be classified by her varying use of denim to make casual and party outfits.
"Dime Piece is very chic, it keeps up to the time - the latest trends and hairstyles," Bryan said. Dime Piece's chic yet sexy look can easily be seen in the outfit the designer made specifically for D'Angel.
Urged by friends who believed in her, Bryan entered the D'Angel Designer's competition. The outfit, a jeans skirt and top with sexy cut outs at the back, showed the designer's creativity.
For D'Angel, it was this creativity that made Bryan's design stand out from the rest.
Bryan believed the gold and denim look would suit D'Angel's complexion and sense of style.
Runway bound
Bryan, who hails from Denham Town, is hoping for greater things. Having shown her designs at Fusion, a party held at UTech, Bryan is hoping to get more shows and one day to reach the fashionable runways of the Caribbean.
"I want to go into the fashion industry and explore what it's really like. I know it would be good for me," Bryan commented.
