An 18-year-old youth who drove away his grandmother's car without her permission, so he could visit a girl, will have to wait a year before he can apply for, or hold a driver's licence.
Lavaughn Campbell was prohibited from obtaining or holding a driver's licence when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Glen Brown in the Corporate Area RM Court yesterday.
Visit a girl
The court heard that Campbell was seen by the police driving the car in the Stadium East area of St Andrew, and was pulled over. He was asked to produce the documents for the vehicle and told the officers that they were at home. He later admitted that he had taken the car without permission so he could visit a girl.
Campbell, who was charged for driving away a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and for driving with no insurance coverage, also told the court that he did not possess a driver's licence.
RM Brown told Campbell and his grandmother had asked the court for mercy. "I am being very lenient with you. You have no record as such unless you attempt to drive your grandmother's car again. Bout you looking girl, tek bus," the RM told the accused.
