Two men who were caught stealing goats in three communities in St Elizabeth last week were sentenced to two years' imprisonment at hard labour after they pleaded guilty to goat stealing when they appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Twenty-six-year-old Sheldon Miller and Hopeton Ramsey, both of St James addresses, were arrested for stealing goats in the districts of Maggotty, Joint Wood and Cameron Hill, all in north- west St Elizabeth.
They were caught at Ginger Hill, New Market, after the vehicle in which they were transporting the animals was stopped by the residents.
After they stole a ram goat valued at $6000 and two other goats valued at $10,000 each, among other goats from the communities.
They were then transferred to the Maggoty Police Station where the animals were identified by the owners. They were then arrested and charged by the Maggotty police and were remanded until yesterday when they were bought before the court.
