Refreshing reggae remixes of love classics

Album: Reggae Lasting Love Songs

Artistes: Various

Genre: reggae, R&B

Rating: ★★★

With the exception of a few, Reggae Lasting Love Songs has many cover versions of R&B songs, with a reggae flavour.

Wayne Wade has definitely made Lionel Richie's Lady his own. The saxophone in the background is quite potent and makes the song easier to listen to. This is also the case for Boris Gardener in his cover of Let's Keep It That Way.

emotions

You can feel Tyrone Taylor's emotions in Hurt Me. His voice although smooth, could not outshine the soothing tones of Doreen Schaffer who followed on Golden Love.

One Step Ahead has real vintage. Likewise, Derrick Harriot went for the classic touch in Close To Me creating a romantic effect with his low, whispering voice.

Jimmy London gives Make The Night A Little Bit Longer the ska treatment. The sound of the guitar is strong and compliments the song.

Ken Boothe's Silver Words is one of the few original songs on the compilation. The song fits comfortably in the category of lasting love songs with strong lyrics and instrumentals.

Both Am I Losing You, and Sitting Out Night Time are soothing although they are done at different paces.

Dobby Dobson did a fine rendition of The Everly Brothers' Til I Kissed You. However, George Banton does not sound like the Temptations in Lady Soul, but he is a decent singer so the song was a fine listen. The background vocals and instruments, especially the saxophone, make the song easier on the ears.

pure R&B

Viscount Oliver did a cover version of Isaac Hayes' I Stand Accused. His voice sounds crisp and he is precise with his pronunciation of words. Though the singer is Jamaican, the song lacks the reggae element that is expected based on the title as the song is completely R&B.

Though Tinga Stewart is known mostly for his festival songs, he handles Red Red Wine well. He also managed to add just the right amount of reggae beats to this Neil Diamond classic.

Carl Dawkins' Baby I Love You is in fact a true and lasting love song. Dawkins' 1966 hit song is the right song to get any couple in a romantic mood.

The compilation ends comfortably with Ossie Scott's instrumental version of My Way. The CD might have mostly renditions of popular and old R&B songs but it provides a relaxing listen.
