Meeks' 'Testiment' to hit the streets

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

Neto Meeks, poet of The Royal African Soldiers. - Andrew Smith

As a testament to his recent struggles, dub poet Neto Meeks' new CD is due for release in three weeks.

The CD, Everyone's Tears - The Testiment is being distributed by Digital Dubs.

Having been involved in music and poetry since high school, as well as being a member of the group Royal African Soldiers, Meeks is no stranger to the entertainment business.

Everyone's Tears - The Testiment is Meeks' first solo effort having previously been on compilations.

"The genre of the CD is called reggae dub flow, dub flow is like the next generation or the future of dub poetry but it's still a part of the reggae family same way. The CD is a testament, my way of dealing with personal problems," Meeks told The STAR.

The Testiment which was inspired by the artiste's legal problems and its effect on his public image, addresses social problems and samples international recording artiste Sade.

Meeks told the STAR that he is trying to deal with his personal problems through poetry.

" ... I didn't want to be in the media ... it was a difficult time and I was feeling sorry for myself but it's just a part of going through hardships in life. This testimony is a personal thing so I said to myself let me share it," he said.

As to how the public is going to react to his latest effort, Meeks is hoping for the best.

"My hope is that people will listen and get some insight into their own life. I hope they can like and appreciate it."
