Dear Pastor,
I am a Jamaican. I have been living here in Germany for five-and-a-half years now. My problem is that I really miss my family and so, I worry about them all the time. Last year was the first time that I have been in Jamaica since I left, and it was only that my grandfather died. I had to see him for one last time. I can't get over his death. Do you think that it's normal that I want to cry when he crosses my mind or am I also feeling guilty because I haven't been in Jamaica for this long time? What do you think I can do to help my feelings? This problem is really bothering my schoolwork. That's bad.
Pastor, what should I do? Please give me your advice.
S.J., Germany
Dear S.J.,
You will get over the death of your grandfather, but it may take a long time. It is not abnormal to cry whenever you think of his passing. Take comfort in the fact that he was a good grandfather and that both of you had shared some happy moments together. If your grandfather was a Christian and you are a Christian, both of you will meet again.
