Haile Selassie High took major honours in the finals of the Chinese Benevolent Association's (CBA) Badminton Tournament held over the weekend at the CBA on Old Hope Road.
In the Division B finals, Tossainte Taylor took the triple crown while his schoolmate Akeem Maxfill did the same in Division D. Sheneill Hyatt was a double winner in the ladies Division D singles event, partnering with Maxfill to take home the mixed doubles tournament.
In the Division B men's singles finals, Taylor defeated Joslyn Davis 18-21, 21-17 and 21-15. In the men's doubles, Taylor and Shawn Forrester defeated Joslyn Davis and Carl Lewis 21-18, 19-21 and 21-16.
In the ladies' singles, Carla Grant defeated Mikaylia Haldane of Manchester High 23-21, 22-20. In the ladies doubles Kimone Myers and Cortia Boyd defeated Haldane and Shakeria Bailey 22-20 and 21-8.
Mixed doubles
In the mixed doubles Taylor and Shana-Kay Bailey of St Hugh's defeated Chadwick Parsons of Meadowbrook High and Haldane 21-13, 13-21 and 22-20.
In the D division finals Maxfill defeated Jermaine Welsh of DeCarteret College 21-15, 21-19. Maxfill teamed with Dennis Coke of St Anne's High to take the men's doubles defeating Maurice McLauren of St Anne's High and Oneil Smith 21-13, 19-21, 21-14.
In the ladies singles final Hyatt defeated Jahvaine Henry of St. Anne's Primary 21-12, 21-15. The ladies doubles saw Nikole Lyn and Mikole Simpson of Bishop Gibson defeating Samantha Henry and Shantell Young of Haile Selassie 21-8, 21-19.
Maxfill and Hyatt teamed up in the mixed doubles defeating Gerald Isaacs of DeCarteret College and Suzanne Lawrence of Bishop Gibson 19-21, 21-11, 21-18.
The second phase of the tournament will take place this weekend starting on Friday and will see play in the open section and Division C at the same venue.
