Parts-A-Lot Football Competition heats up

By Richard Bryan, Freelance Writer

Even with one preliminary round left to be played, most of the quarter-finalists of the Parts-A-Lot/INSPORT Football Competition, which is being played in honour of former outstanding Clarendonian footballer, Peter Lindsay, have been determined.

Leading the way from Zone A are the defending champions Webblanders, with nine points and one match to be played. With two victories against Herbs and Cuban Links and three draws, the defending champions cannot be overtaken for the top qualifying spot.

Enthralling battle

The second available spot from this zone continues to be an enthralling battle between Herbs and Savannah Cross. In fact, Herbs, after the first three matches, shared the lead with Webblanders but saw their chances dip considerably after successive defeats, including one to Savannah Cross. Savannah Cross, whose first four games ended in draws, hold a crucial two-point lead over their nearest challengers.

Vietnam Alliance is completely large and in charge of Zone B, as their 11-point lead is unassailable. However, the race for the second spot is still anyone's guess, with two other teams having at least a mathematical chance. Khaki Suit, with eight points, is the hot favourite to clinch qualification, followed by Gravel Hill (four points). Dumpy is out of contention but could fill the role of spoilers.

Zone C is virtually sewn up with Fresh Stars (10 points) and Gunners (seven) leading all contenders.

Taxi Gang (12 points) is assured of finishing first from Zone D, but the contest for second spot continues to be close between Bucknor, Kennedy Grove and Original Hazard.
