Residents of Park Lane are blaming 'bad mind' as the reason Donovan 'Shabba' Bryan was killed last weekend.
"Dem shouldn't kill the diamond yute," said one man in between puffing on a cigarette. "A grudge dem grudge de man cause dem see him get a big bike the other day. A 22 days now since the man get it and dem bad mind him".
When asked who the 'dem' that he was referring to were, he spoke of men from the adjacent 100 Lane community.
However, 100 Lane residents adamantly dismissed the claims being made by men from Park Lane. "Nuttin nuh go so mi elder! A bare rumour dem a spread. De whole a we and 'Shabba' a fren so how we fi kill him? As bad as tings be, we and dem man deh reason when we bruck," one 100 Lane resident told THE STAR.
"Shabba a man dat wha we talk to, so how we fi hurt dem man deh? A lie dem a tell pon 100 Lane man dem."
Deputy Superintendent Carol McKenzie, operations officer at the St Andrew North Division, said that the Constant Spring police are working overtime to control the tension that has been in the area since Saturday's incident, and have already engaged both communities in dialogue to have normality restored.
Since the incident, tension has risen between both communities, bringing both to the brink of war. Some residents in the 100 Lane community said they are also calling on the Peace Management Initiative and the constituency's Member of Parliament to help bring the two factions together.
Police reports are that 'Shabba' and his brother, Fitzroy, had gone to a bar along Constant Spring Road last Saturday when men travelling in a white Toyota Corolla drove by and fired several shots, hitting both men as they dismounted a motorcycle.
