Main suspect in Olympic Gardens feud remanded

Fabian Ledgister/Dwayne Mcleod, Star Writers

One of the main suspects in the on-going gang feud in Olympic Gardens, St Andrew, is in police custody.

The man, known as 'gangsta,' is said to be a top member of the 'Response gang.'

This gang and the notorious 'Rat bat' gang, have been locked in warfare recently, resulting in four murders and the burning of several houses. Several residents have also been forced to flee their homes.

'Gangsta', wanted by police since 2005, was held on Friday in Seaview Gardens, St Andrew. Police say he is not your average criminal.

"The interesting thing about this man is that he is a mechanic by day, but at night he becomes a terror to the community...everybody, including the police are breathing a sigh of relief at this man's apprehension," said Superintendent Derrick 'cowboy' Knight, head of the St Andrew South Division.

The man is to face an ID parade in connection with at least four murders.

In the latest of the murders, he is alleged to be involved in, the headless body of a man was found almost two weeks ago near Half-Way Tree.
